Q: How much does a website cost?
Answer: There are three basic website development charges:
- You will need to pay a company to register a domain name (a web address) for your website. Check out www.godaddy.com. They are inexpensive, reliable, and provide very good customer service. Beware: Godaddy will try to sell you lots of services you probably don't need before they let you pay to register a domain name.
- You must pay a website hosting service to store your website files and keep your website on the Internet. I recommend Stormer Hosting. The cost starts at $50.00/year for my clients only.
- You will need to hire someone to design, develop & maintain your website. I charge $40.00/hour for this service.
Call or email me for more detailed information about these costs, which depend, of course, on what you want a website to do for you, and how long it takes to build it.
Q: How do I send you content (text, graphics, etc.) for my website?
Answer: You can send me text in an email, or as a Word or Word Perfect attachment to an email. Graphics can be sent to me as photographs that I can scan or as a file or files from a digital camera attached to an email. Both text and graphics can also be mailed to me on a CD.
Q: Can I have a slideshow on my website? Can I have animation?
Q: Can I have a video on my website?
Answer: Yes. I can do this either with Flash, using an acceptable video format, or by adding your YouTube video to a web page.
Q: Can I sell products or services on my website?
Answer: Yes. This can be straightforward or complicated, depending on how you want to be paid, how you want to charge for shipping & handling, and whether you want a shopping cart on your website. Some shopping carts are free and others are not.
Q: How can I find colors for my website?
Answer: Go to http://www.december.com/html/spec/color.html. You can find lots of color swatches there. Pick the one you want and send me the code that looks like #AB23ff, and tell me what you want me to make that color.
If you have questions about getting a website, email them to me.
I may even add them to this page.
